Alcoholism
A lot of people don’t know that Alcoholism is in fact a disease. It is a disease that not only effects someone’s personal family life, but all of society. In 2006, the Department of Transportation reported that out of the 1,746 traffic fatalities that involving children age 0 to 14 years, 1 in 6 (17%) involved an impaired driver. Not only can an alcoholic put his own life in danger but that of anyone else. There is a change that an alcoholic can turn someone else’s whole life upside down. I hope to advise everyone that, although alcoholism is easy to fall into for several reasons, there is plenty of help for those who reach out for it.
There are several causes of alcohol dependency, some generate it from genetics, the general risk factor, exposure to alcohol before the age of 15, family history or alcoholism. Alcoholism can be very important to all kinds of discourses. Some symptoms of alcohol is patterns of heavy drinking and driving, black out drinking, increased tolerance, lying about and hiding drink, the need to drink in order to relax. Someone who is an alcoholic can cause problems in their immediate family, work, and to society. Alcoholism can be the cause of divorce, job loss, financial instability, and death to oneself, or death to others. This disease can cause alcohol poisoning, or can even cause an accident due to driving under the influence. Over 50% of grown ups know someone in their family who has suffered of alcoholism. This is why it is so important that everyone knows that the effects of alcohol dependency.
The reason why I am writing about alcoholism is to inform people that there are things that can be done prevent and overcome alcoholism. Teenagers who are exposed to alcohol before the age of 15 are more prone to become alcoholics in the future. Family members of alcoholics are more prone to becoming alcoholics. Being aware of the risk factors can help parents keep a closer eye on their children’s exposure to alcohol, and family members more aware of the higher risks that they run. Alcoholism can be overcome, the first step is recognizing that there is a problem. There are group counseling sessions, and step programs that will walk you through the process of defeating alcohol dependency.
Hopefully with this topic I can make more people aware of the risk factors that are related to disease of alcoholism. Knowledge is power, and the more people know about this illness, the safer this world can be.
